lotte meijer, a designer of the BYOP (broadcast your own podcast), recently called for some audio pieces to be played in Antarctica.

Since bandwidth is an issue, the only real way to get it there is to have it flown. In this case, the audio CD was flown to the base camp by Adam Hyde, a member of the Broadcast Your Podcast team who is currently in Antarctica, setting up a Radiostation.

It is located at the South-African base, where there are approximately 70 scientist working over summer, and 20 during winter. This radio station provides radio to the scientists who do research on the base, and out in the field. Lotte pointed out that the station is much more powerful than the Tetsuo Kogawa based fm transmitter she uses in the BYOP.

I decided that sending a small piece from Rio De Janeiro, Brazil might be appropriate, in lieu of recent announcements regarding global warming. It also seemed like it might be a nice way to stay warm.
This short piece is called time in rio, and was designed there in 1999 and mixed in NY in 2007.
